Liz Seymour closes Seussical… or does she?

Saturday night came and it was time to close Seussical. The evening started in a normal fashion. We arrived to the theater and the cast and crew prepared for our final performance. The house was filled and the opening number ended with thunderous applause.

Then, at the start of the third number, the place just went black. A power outtage occured. The power surged back on and off for the next 15 minutes. The theater's leaders ran backstage to start the power backup generator. We thought the backup generator would allow the show to go on, but it only supported the emergency lights and couldn't support the theatrical lights and sound system.

Then we started scrambling. We wanted to please the packed house awaiting a performance and we wanted to get the power back working or at least get an updated status on the electric company's solution to the area-wide problem.

The powers-that-be made the decision, about a half hour later, to cancel the show and add a Sunday show at 2pm. About 1/3 of the Saturday audience said they'd be able to make a Sunday performance and all of the cast was on board. The theater refunded money to those who paid cash and could not return the next day. It was madness.

The power came back on just as actors were finishing getting cleaned up and changed to normal clothes. The groan was heard throughout the building. But it was too late to second guess the decision.

The new closing performance, Sunday, had a good turn out. The most impressive aspect of Sunday's performance was the electricity of the audience.  They were appreciative and vocal during the performance which created a great electricity to perform in, no pun intended!

NOW Seussical is closed!
