Liz Seymour and Gina Giachero Prepare For Another Week In The Studio

The meeting was called for 2:30 PM, but when I arrived, it was clear that these two busy, active, creative women had been deep in conversation for a while.

They're not only colleagues on this CD - Liz Seymour: That Thing Called Love - but they're good friends.

For nearly two hours we compared notes about notes (sorry for the pun) - we had each prepared pages of comments about the sung and played notes on the CD, and our meeting was scheduled to go over them to be sure we were in agreement about what we're going to do next week when we return to the studio for three days to complete the CD.

My notes were mainly aimed at the Recording Engineer, Brian, who has done a great job so far. This Pre-Mix version of the CD was extremely helpful to each of us: we could listen to see how well things were going AND it allowed me to get a jump on two Music Videos.

Liz's notes were mostly about her own performance. Sometimes it's difficult for an artist to appraise what he or she has already committed to a recorded medium. But Liz had several pages of notes in her laptop and busily added more as the meeting progressed.

Gina was listening for her own keyboard and harp work, listening for the balance of Liz to the instruments, and assessing where additional instruments could be added next week in the studio.

It was fun for me to lean back and just watch them go! The intensity, focus, and commitment was great to see.

The next few days in the Range Recording Studios in Ardmore, PA are very important. Many people can get a CD to THIS stage - but taking it from good to great is where the successful sound comes in.

So, within the next two weeks, we'll have 3 days in the studio, a full day of video for our next Music Video, and Liz will open in Seussical at The Players Club of Swarthmore Theatre… all of that on top of teaching 6th graders as they begin another school year.

Ahhhh, life can be fun, can't it!
